Hanging on for a second-round win over Van Buren on Tuesday, the Pella Christian girls’ basketball team embarks for New Sharon tonight to play North Mahaska in a Class 2A regional semifinal showdown. The Eagles won 51 – 33 on Tuesday, thanks to some step-up play by Tessa Howerzyl. Coach Kevin Van Maanen is hoping they can get Lauren Jungling back in the line-up tonight, but he says that the better defending team will more than likely come out victorious.
“Offensively, I think we have some advantages over them,” Van Maanen said. “It’s going to be an interesting night; who’s going to show up to play, who’s going to make the big shots? Who plays the better defense I think is going to win this game.”
North Mahaska has only lost one game all season, and enters play with a 21 – 1 record. You can catch all of the high stakes action tonight on 92.1 KRLS and streamed live on kniakrls.com with Cory Houser and Wynne Veenstra on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. with tip-off at 7:00.
