For the third consecutive year, the Pella Christian girls’ basketball team will be participating in the Class 2A state tournament in Des Moines after handily defeating Woodward-Granger on Monday night, 65 – 36. The game was close at half, but the Eagles used strong rebounding and near-perfect defense to run away with the game in the second half. Pella Christian held the Hawks to just 15 rebounds for the game and only ten second half points. Coach Kevin Van Maanen said that it was two of his seniors who really stepped up when it mattered last night. Paige Engbers led all scorers with 21 points and Cori Uitermarkt added 19. The Eagles are one of eight teams left standing in Class 2A, and will begin their run towards another state tournament final next week. Pella Christian will be paired against the team that beat them in the state final last year, Western Christian, in the first round on Monday at 5:00 p.m.
