The Iowa Department of Transportation reports that all area roadways are snow or ice covered and may be slick.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reports that there have been several accidents on county and state roads since the storm began earlier this week, with many vehicles in ditches. Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholt tells KNIA/KRLS News that a tow ban is in effect, and he urges caution if one must travel.

State and county plows and maintainers are in operation.

If you must travel this morning, take plenty of time to get to your destination, and give our road crews and first responders plenty of room to work.

Officially at the KNIA/KRLS studios, the system brought more than a foot of snow. Reports from listeners indicate that there were locally heavier amounts – as much as 18 inches. And as the weather graphic above shows, we won’t get much of a break. Another system is expected to come through the area at the beginning of next week.
