Both Aaron Crossett and Colton Spaur were on a mission to reach the state wrestling meet. After last week’s runner up finished in the district, they seemed to have rather difficult first round matches against Sectional winners from last week. Both they left no doubt they were the top two grapplers in their weight class yesterday at the Class two-A Knoxville District on Saturday. Crossett rolled through his two matches at 170 pounds, winning by a pin and claiming the championship match over Jack Leshen of Grinnell 9-2. Spaur went 1-1 on the day as he fell in the title match at 182 pounds giving up a take down in the late stages. However, he would get runner-up honors by the head-to-head rule in that match when he was matched up with Jordan Grove of A-D-M who be soundly defeated 11-4 in the first round. 195 pounder Jac Agan claimed third place and Broc Caviness competed in the 200 pound weight class, but did not place. Coach Ron Peterson was very pleased with all four of his guys and their performance. Aaron Crossett’s first round match will be against Izaak Shedenhelm of Denver/Tripoli in the 170 pound bracket. For Colton Spaur his 182 pound match will be against Jacyn Goebel of West Delaware. First round class 2A will begin Thursday night at seven at Wells Fargo Arena.
