The PCM boys’ basketball team battled back and forth Thursday night in Monroe, before pulling away for a 53-39 victory over Albia in Class 2A playoff action. Junior Dillon Bruxvoort scored the first six points of the ballgame, but a balanced offensive attack from PCM allowed them to lead all 32 minutes of the contest. That attack included double digit performances from Nate Vande Wall, Ethan Kain, Bruxvoort and Alex DeWitte. PCM held a slim 23-19 advantage over Albia at the break, but after both clubs started the second half with several scoreless minutes, the Blue Demons knocked down a three to cut their deficit to one. That’s when the Mustangs muscled up and went on a 15-0 run as Coach Fred Lorensen talks about his team’s defense being the difference. The PCM victory improves the Mustangs to 21-1, as they move on to the third round where they will face the Pella Christian Eagles next Tuesday in Oskaloosa.
