Pella Christian needed a lift after back-to-back losses, and the Eagles got just that over Knoxville with a 48-29 win over the Panthers last night in girls basketball.  The Eagles used an offense that penetrated the Knoxville defense for either easy lay ups or kick outs for wide open threes.  Paige Engbers nailed three first half long range bombs, and when she was not hitting threes, the Eagles found both Cori Utiermarkt and Hannah Beltman under the basket for easy shots.  Utiermarkt led the Eagles with 14 points ten of which came in the first half.  Panthers Coach Jim Utiermarkt said Pella Christian’s ability to get inside was what did in his team. Meredith Cunningham led the Panthers with nine points.  Pella Christian improves to 15-5 on the season and 9-2 in Little Hawkeye Conference and clinches at least a share of the conference title.  Knoxville meanwhile, falls to 8-11 on the season and 3-8 in conference play.  Pella Christian will host Grinnell with an opportunity to clinch the outright L-H-C title on Friday while Knoxville travels to Newton on Thursday for a makeup game.
