More than 3100 MidAmerican customers were without power for at least a half-hour Wednesday. The outage started at around 1:35pm. Knoxville Police Officer Randy Puyear was at the gas station adjacent to the sub-station at the intersection of Lincoln and Larson Streets when a transformer blew. He tells KNIA/KRLS it sounded like a 12-gauge shotgun had gone off. Power was restored for about 2300 customers at around 2:10, while 800 more had it restored around 2:20pm.
