A flat start doomed the Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad in their game against Carlisle last night as the Wildcats took advantage of missed shots and turnovers to post a 51-47 stunner over the Panthers in the Class 4A Regional. Carlisle built a lead to eight midway through the second quarter and eventually got it up to 11 with a three point basket at the halftime buzzer. The Wildcats kept control until the start of the fourth quarter taking a ten point lead into the final frame when Knoxville started the final quarter on a 10-2 run to get to within two points on three occasions late but could never get that key stop. Knoxville Coach Jim Utiermarkt was worried about the start and his worst fears were soon realized. Ashley Hawkshead led the Panthers with 14 points, Meredith Cunningham finished with 13. Knoxville finishes the season at 8-14. Two seniors, Katie Cunningham and Kassi Griggs played their final games for the Panthers.
