Twin Cedars’ Athletic Director, Justin Nolte, said that last night’s Coaches vs. Cancer event was a big success at his school, and both of the Sabers’ basketball teams capped the night with a win over rival Melcher-Dallas to sweep the season series. The Sabers’ girls won 59 – 36, propelled by a 22-point, nine rebound effort by senior Alee Hugen, while Brittney Roby threw in a double-double with 14 points and ten assists. Three starters hit double digits for the Sabers’ boys, which led them to a 61 – 47 victory over the Saints. Dylan Springer scored 17 to lead the way for his team, while Ross Dawson was tops for Melcher-Dallas with 13. Twin Cedars’ girls finish the regular season at 18 – 3 and Melcher-Dallas ended at 6 – 15. Both teams begin their venture towards the state tournament tomorrow night; Twin Cedars will host Moulton-Udell while the Saints head to Wayne to play. The Sabers’ boys continue their hot streak to improve to 12 – 8, while the Saints fall to 9 – 10. Each team wraps up regular season play on Friday; Twin Cedars will play at South Page and Melcher-Dallas heads to Wayne.
