Departing seniors, Sheldon Rozenburg and Lindsey Pothoven each got off to slow starts for the Pella High girls’ basketball team in the 2012-13 season. After the holiday break, says Coach Jerod Garland, each girl found their role both offensively and defensively. Garland said that Rozenburg was able to figure out how to get open against zone defenses and drain shots from the left side of the hoop from about 12-feet out. The Lady Dutch coach also said that when Pothoved figured out how to go straight up on opponents’ shots in the post, she started racking up the blocked shots and was a menace to her competitors. Garland said that while both players, and the rest of the seniors, will be missed, he’s excited for next year with his returning athletes, and some kids coming up from eighth grade as freshman next season. Pella’s girls finished with a 9 – 12 record.
