The VA’s Community-Based Outpatient Clinic is holding an open house Tuesday to demonstrate some new techniques. Coordinator Maureen Nichols says they’ll be showing off the latest in telehealth. The new system allows patients to make the short drive to Knoxville for a number of appointments involving vitals, wound care, pre-operation visits, and more. Nichols says that patients are hooked up to a system with a monitor, where a provider on the other side can assess and measure a variety of information. Nichols says saves patients the hassle of driving or finding a ride to Des Moines for the same assessments. The open house at Building One takes place from 11:30-3pm on Tuesday.
