After having a few weeks down in warm, sunny Florida to play some non-conference games, the Central baseball team stepped off the plane in Iowa and had to put a jacket on. The Dutch, mainly the older players, are used to the cold weather in the state to begin their Iowa Conference schedule in late March. Head coach, Adam Stevens, said that while it is tough to readjust to the temperature change, the more frigid weather actually benefits his team. Stevens says that the infields in Florida are hard so the balls get through a lot quicker and is practically a hitter’s paradise, so pitching is more important early on in the season in the Iowa Conference part of the schedule. The Dutch coach jokingly added that they’ll just have to wear a couple more sweatshirts than they did down in Florida. Central’s conference games start this Friday with a home doubleheader against Loras.
