Central Baseball Wins on Opening Day

It got murky late, but the Central baseball team was able to open up their season with a win over Illinois, 6 – 5 on Thursday down in Fort Myers, Florida. Dirk Lindaman went eight innings, only allowing two runs and striking out six, but the wheels almost came off in the ninth when he was charged with three runs to close the gap to one, until Judson McKown shut the door for the save with a strikeout. Senior center fielder, Sam Stetzel went 3-for-4 and drove in two to lead the offensive attack for the Dutch, who also used their speed to the advantage, swiping three bases. Central is 1 – 0 to begin the year, and will continue their run through the Gene Cusic Classic today when they face Heidelberg, Ohio at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
