Dirt will soon be turned on the first portion of the Young’s Park Kiwanis Miracle Playground Project. Playground Committee Chairman Ernie Smith tells KNIA/KRLS News that after raising more than $70,000, they’ll be able to build a patio, a swing set, and a playground for 2-5-year-old kids. The patio will also be an important part of their next fundraising project – A portion of the patio will consist of engraved bricks. Smith says that they’re selling the opportunity to engrave each brick. The bricks will cost $150 apiece, and Smith says there is room for about 500 bricks in the patio. The Morning Kiwanis Club needs to raise about $100,000 more to build the final two phases of the project, including a playground for kids six and up. In the meantime, Smith says that he’s anxious to see the first playground go up in the near future.
