Not based on a whole lot other than who is returning to his team this season, head boys’ track coach for Pella Christian, Keith Anderson says that they are so far looking strong in various field events. Anderson talked about one senior returner that will help lead the team in a few contests.
“Just based off of last year, our field events will be our biggest strength. We’ve got some guys that can jump in both the long jump and the high jump,” Anderson said. “One name in particular, Derek Van Kooten, who’s going to be a senior, he did make it to state last year in both the high jump and the long jump. I’m really looking for him to build upon last year’s success.”
He also said that John Larson, a sophomore returner who made some great strides in the long jump last year, will join Van Kooten in leading the way on pushing some guys who want to take a shot at some of the field events, too. The Eagles were supposed to have a quad meet today against Des Moines Christian, Lynnville-Sully and Twin Cedars, but Mother Nature decided not to let that happen, and it has been cancelled. Instead, they will open up the season next Tuesday at Davis County at 5:00 p.m.
