Having to face Western Christian in the first round of the Class 2A state tournament, the Pella Christian girls’ basketball team was not at 100 percent when it came to their health. Cori Uitermarkt was playing through a sore foot, Madison Fopma had suffered a concussion over a week ago, and Lauren Jungling was still having problems with her leg and saw limited playing time down the stretch. Coach Kevin Van Maanen said that the lack of health, not to mention the early foul trouble, did not help matters much having to face the top team in the state. The three-year run of making it to the state tournament is the first such streak in Pella Christian girls’ basketball history.
