Several young girls came to sign-up for the 2012 spring golf season for Pella last year, and then-first year head coach, Wade Van Vark had no idea how things were going to turn out. The girls did not know many of the rules, the etiquette, and several of them hadn’t swung a club before until practice started. However, his girls started dramatically improving as the season wore on, and they finished just one place out of making the state tournament, with a third place showing at districts. Van Vark says that he’s anxious to get 2013’s season underway and has some specific goals for his team for the year. He says if the better scores don’t bump their place up at some meets, then it just means the Little Hawkeye Conference is just that strong, so that’s also a good thing for his team. First meet for the Lady Dutch is on April 4 at Newton.
