Looks were very deceiving for Jerod Garland’s Pella High girls’ basketball team in 2012-13. Mid-season, Garland likened his team to a pick-up truck because it wasn’t too pretty on the outside but was a workhorse and was reliable. Having those qualities helped his team win a couple games that perhaps they shouldn’t have against a ranked Oskaloosa and Washington team on the road. Garland said that in those victories, you could see glimpses of the high amount of talent his team had.The Lady Dutch hung with Norwalk in the first round of the Class 4A regional tournament before falling 47 – 41 to end their season with a 9 – 13 record.
