The Marion County Board of Supervisors denied a grant request from Heartland Resource Conservation and Development during their regular meeting last week. The request came as RC&Ds across the nation are struggling and even folding due to a lack of federal funding. The request was for 5000 dollars. Craig Agan, who is on the Heartland board, said the request would likely be a one-time request, as the organization thinks it could be self-sustainable by the next fiscal year. Mark Raymie says he appreciates all the accomplishments and services that RC&Ds provide, but he doesn’t think that governments should be involved in economic development. The vote was 2-0 against the request. Raymie and Jim Kingery voted against the request, while Agan abstained.
