Knoxville Increasing Housing Development Efforts

The City of Knoxville will be taking a more aggressive look at housing development. The City Council set aside $350,000 to help spur development for the fiscal year beginning July 1st. City Manager Harold Stewart says they made it a priority after hearing concerns about the lack of such development from business owners and employers. He explains to KNIA/KRLS that the City wants to play as minimal a role as possible, but the Council is prepared to act more aggressively if necessary. Stewart says their engineering consultant, Snyder and Associates, will go over potential sites and develop pros and cons of each. He adds the money the City Council has set aside could be used for purchasing land, providing incentives to developers, building infrastructure, and more.
