The cold, breezy weather did not keep our area track teams away Saturday, and it even brought about some new personal and season bests. The Lady Dutch of Pella won overall with 180 points, with Pella Christian coming in third with 70. The Eagles’ Madison Fopma increased her previous five foot jump from the Pella Christian Invitational with a leap of five fee two inches on Saturday…good enough for first place. Jenna Fynaardt came in second in the 100, and Christa Veenstra was also runner up in the 400. On the boys’ side, the Little Dutch prevailed again, winning by a resounding 64 points over Knoxville, 154-90. The Pingel brothers, Wade and Jordan were first and second, respectively, in the 400 hurdles. Knoxville did have four first place finishes as Jacob Moats won the high jump, Wick Cunningham took home the 800 gold medal, Tanner Dunkin proved to be the fastest boy at the Oskaloosa Relays in winning the 100, and the 4×800 relay of Matt Hollingshead, Tyler Derringer, Moats, Cunningham placed first. Second place medals were earned by Nathan Winters in the discus, Joe Stearns in the shot put, and the 4×400 relay. Seven third place finishes highlighted the girls end of the Osky Relays. Meredith Cunningham in the 100 hurdles, Tori Johnston in the 400 hurdles, Rikki Hall in the long jump, and Chambray Daugherty in the high jump. Coach Jeremy Van Engen says Johnston just started running the 400 hurdles this season after he decided to see what how she would do since she already runs the open 400. Relays races that finished third for the Pangthers were: 4×200, 400, sprint medley and shuttle hurdle. Pella Christian’s girls’ track sqyad will race next on Tuesday at Eddyville-Blakesburg, while the Pella and Knoxville boys are at Norwalk on today, and the and Pella and Knoxville girls travel to Bondurant-Farrar also today.
