In a very competitive mini-tournament at Caldwell Park, both Pella and Pella Christian’s girls’ tennis squads fell just short of Indianola on Saturday morning. The Indians had 168 points, just nine more than the Lady Dutch, and the Eagles came in third with 127 while Knoxville was fourth with 108 points. In the number one singles’ bracket, Morgan Ernst of Pella came in second, while Zoe Vermeer of the Lady Dutch was first in number two singles. The majority of the Eagles’ points came in doubles, Pella Christian was first in both number one and number two doubles, and finished second in number three, with Pella’s tandem of Emily Vander Werff and Bri Buzick taking first in that bracket. Knoxville meanwhile was runner up in number one doubles even though they went undefeated on the day. The Pella Christian tandem was given the win because they had won more games. Also Knoxville’s Kassie Griggs and Shamene Norman was second at number two doubles. Pella’s girls next play Grinnell on Monday, while the Eagles play Newton on Tuesday and Knoxville travels to Oskaloosa on Tuesday.
