Last season, the Knoxville Boys Soccer Squad lost four games in shootouts. This season it looked like the Panthers luck was not going to change when they fell to A-D-M last week in a shootout. However, last night Knoxville’s luck finally went the other way on a cold night in Newton as the Panthers defeated the Cardinals in a shootout. The match was tied at one after regulation. Matt Smith found the goal courtesy of Austin Legvold. After two scoreless overtimes, the teams traded penalty kicks with Panther Goalie Tyler Wadle stopping two of Newton’s goals. Smith, Jake Stearns, Kale Clarke, and Alex Dye all nailed shootout goals. Wadle stopped 12 shots in regulation and two more in the shootout. Knoxville improves to 5-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Panthers have a what now becomes a big midseason match against Norwalk on Tuesday.
