The Knoxville City Council passed an ordinance having to do with RAGBRAI vendors and permits during their regular meeting on Monday. These special permits cover the two days that RAGBRAI stops in Knoxville and will be required even if vendors have regular year-long permits. Businesses will be required to pay $650 for a permit to sell on the street during those two days; non-profits will need to pay $350.
City Manager Harold Stewart explains that the City is incurring a lot of cost as part of event, and this helps in recouping some of those costs. He says the fees are similar to other communities that have hosted a RAGBRAI overnight stop. Now that the ordinance has passed, Stewart says they’ll be taking applications and working with those who want to set up on the streets of Knoxville for those days.
