Late inning heroics Saturday afternoon in Waverly, led the Iowa Conference leading Wartburg Knights to a pair of victories over the Central Dutch. In the opening game, Central had left six runners on base paths during the seven-inning contest. Wartburg also wasted several opportunities in the nail biter, but with two outs and a runner on second in the seventh, the decisive play bounced their way to give the Knights the win. The 1st game took just 90 minutes to complete, with Scott Benson from Wartburg receiving the win, and Central’s Ryan Goetzinger taking the loss. The second game of the day proved to be just as frustrating for the Dutch, as the 5-2 final gave the Knights Ben Rettenmeier the win, and kept him perfect on the season at 5-0. The loss dropped Central’s Ryan Dusil to 0-2 on the year. The sweep improved Wartburg’s record to 12-2 in conference play and 23-5 overall. The double disappointment left Central .500 in league play with a 7-7 record and an overall tally of 15-10.
