One inning made the difference in Knoxville’s 4-1 loss to Martensdale St. Mary’s in softball yesterday. The Panthers and Blue Devils were scoreless for the first four innings, however errors and timely Martensdale St. Mary’s hitting scored four runs. Knoxville did respond with a run in the bottom half of the fifth but could not get any closer. Coach Steph Christner said just like Tuesday’s contest against Albia, errors cost her team again. She adds that on the bright side, Pitcher Emily Wallace is pitching better this year than all of last season. She says with a year under her belt, Wallace is getting more confident. Wallace took the loss yesterday going the distance allowing all four runs on six hits, five strikeouts, and just two walks. Knoxville is now 0-2 on the season. After facing the fourth ranked team in class 1A yesterday, the Panthers will now face class 3A number ten Clarke tonight.
