Admittedly not having the fastest runners in the state, Pella Christian head softball coach, Nate Van Wyk has been focusing on making his girls better base-runners when they get on. Van Wyk says that he’s been spending tremendous amounts of time leading up to this first week of competition on helping his girls read the balls better and get them into a position where they can score and manufacture runs in a variety of ways. The Eagles did show some dominant pitching against Montezuma on Tuesday, striking out 12 batters in a 4 – 3 win. Pella Christian’s softball team is 1 – 0 – 1 to start the year, and will next play Albia on Tuesday.
