With a pair of convincing wins over both Buena Vista and Loras in Cedar Rapids Friday, the Central baseball squad found themselves right back up against the team that sent them to the loser’s bracket in the first place: Simpson. The Dutch barraged Buena Vista with all 11 of their runs in a four-inning span en route to an 11 – 4 victory in their first game of the day. Central pounded out 14 hits, which was more than enough thanks to a solid outing from starter Ryan Goetzinger, who went the distance to pick up his third win of the season. Central’s pitching was again the story in their next game against the Duhawks, as the Dutch shut out Loras 3 – 0. Ryan Dusil won his fifth game of the year, thanks to his seven-inning effort; scattering seven hits while striking out five. Judson McKown came on in relief to pick up the save with two scoreless innings to complete the shutout. However, the good times stopped rolling for the Dutch with their third game of the day, losing to the Storm 9 – 0. Simpson piled on four runs in the second and five more in the fourth; Central pitchers Robbie Rushing and Andy Carr took the brunt of the attack, getting charged with all nine of the Storm’s tallies. Central’s record is now 22 – 19, and they will have to wait and see if they earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III tournament.
