Derek Van Kooten was the top performer for the Eagles with his third place leap in the long jump. Van Kooten had a jump of 21’6” in the preliminary round, which was a personal best and good enough to advance him to the finals, where he jumped 21’3”, good for third place in the competition. Van Kooten is in action today with the high jump. Abbi Gilson for PCM’s girls threw close to 36 feet in the shot put, giving her 14th overall. Rachel Peter, also for the Mustangs, was 20th in the 3000 meters. Finally, Lexi Kain of PCM and Christa Veenstra of Pella Christian each competed in the girls’ 400 meter dash, with Kain coming in third in her heat with a time of 1:02.40, and Veenstra was fifth, clocking in at 1:01.90.
