With the warm weather that Drake Relays brought last weekend almost an afterthought now with the recent dumping of snow over our area, there are two big meets coming up next week for the Pella High boys’ and girls’ track teams. On Monday, weather and condition of the track permitting, the Dutch will be hosting a meet featuring lots of quality competition, including Knoxville, Norwalk, and South Tama, just to name a few. Then on Thursday, both Pella squads head to Grinnell to try and qualify their meets for state. Coach Dak Rasmussen of the Lady Dutch says that his 4 x 100 meter relay team being able to cross the finish line first in their heat, regardless of how they finished overall, gives them great momentum heading into this week. Rasmussen adds that being able to have a “one” next to your name on a Drake Relays results sheet is special. Previously mentioned South Tama will be a nice preview, as they will also be at Grinnell on Thursday to try and qualify for state. Monday’s meet is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
