Joshua Goemaat was convicted of public intoxication – 3rd or subsequent offense during a bench trial yesterday. Marion County Attorney Ed Bull says that Goemaat was given the opportunity to participate in Intensive Treatment Court, which he says would have given him the opportunity to receive intensive substance abuse treatment, life skills, and employment assistance. Goemaat declined the plea offer. Sentencing will be June 28th.
Bull says “It is unfortunate that Mr. Goemaat did not seek to avail himself to the beneficial services that Intensive Treatment Court has to offer. As a result, the State will request of the Judge that Mr. Goemaat spends a substantial amount of time in jail. If he is unwilling to voluntarily seek the help that he desperately needs, the State will at least ensure to the members of our community that he isn’t walking around committing additional crimes.”
