Several homes have been evacuated along Lincoln St. in Knoxville after a gas line break this morning. A two-inch plastic gas line broke this morning as Alliant Energy was doing work on the corner of Lincoln and Hobert. The break occurred just after 8am. The Knoxville Police Department has closed Lincoln St. from Larson St. to Jackson St.; the frontage road parallel to Lincoln St. remains open. Knoxville Fire and Rescue is also on scene monitoring the situation. Deputy Fire Chief Ben Truetken tells KNIA/KRLS News that since there is a north wind, homes to the south of the break all the way to Larson St. have been evacuated. Alliant Energy is on-scene fixing the break; the road is expected to be closed until at least 9:30am.
