The Knoxville Fire Department will be making some schedule adjustments come this summer. Fire Chief Nick Bonstell tells KNIA/KRLS News that they will have a paid crew on staff for 24 hours during Sundays. He explains that it’s currently a volunteer-only spot, despite the fact that it’s the day that consistently has the most calls made. Bonstell says he’s not sure why that is, but it makes sense to make that change and use tax dollars efficiently. That shift in the schedule will begin July 1st. Bonstell adds that with that adjustment, Saturdays from 5am to 5pm will become the only time period where they have purely volunteer responders.
