In a game that was every bit of intense and exciting as everyone thought it would be, the Pella High girls’ soccer team beat Dallas Center-Grimes 2 – 1 last night with help from sudden victory penalty kicks. The match was scoreless through 40 minutes and stayed that way for most of the second half, until the Fillies scored at about the 60’ mark. D-C-G seemed to have the game in hand, until Allie DeMeulenaere made a shot from around 20 feet out with under 20 seconds to play to tie the game at one. Both teams failed to score in two overtime periods and were still tied after the best-of-five penalty kicks. The Lady Dutch tallied a goal when the Fillies couldn’t in the sudden victory playoff to win the game. Pella improves to 15 – 1 overall, and will host PCM this Tuesday in the regional semifinals in Class 2A, as the Mustangs were able to beat Oskaloosa 4 – 2 in the quarterfinals to advance in the tournament.
