The Marion County Historical Society will be opening its season in less than three weeks. The Historical Village will open for Pioneer Days on Memorial Day weekend, May 25th and 26th. The weekend will start with a special Civil War reenactment on Saturday from the Army of Southwest Iowa. The Knoxville Lion’s Club will be serving pancakes, and the Historical Society will serve Civil War-era food. Local historian Troy Pearson will also discuss the history of the Civil War in Marion County, and a sermon will be given by a Reverend Olympia Brown impersonator. Brown was one of a few women preachers during the Civil War Era. Admission to the opening weekend is free.
