It was senior night for the Pella boys’ and girls’ track teams Monday night, and it was the Dutch who shined the brightest all over the Pella Stadium oval, sweeping the co-ed meet. The Lady Dutch finished with 171 points, a whopping 64 more than second place Grinnell. Pella Christian’s girls were seventh overall with 39 points. Pella Christian’s Jenna Fynaardt had the fastest 100 meter dash time, coming in at just over 13 seconds. Pella’s Victoria Kleven finished first in the 3000 meters, and Lydia VanEe crossed the line ahead of everyone else in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles. Pella also won in the 4 x 100, 200 and 400 meter relay races. The Little Dutch ended up with 149 points, and Knoxville was right behind them in second with 121. Pella Christian’s boys took seventh with 18. Derek Van Kooten was the bright spot for the Eagles; winning in the long jump and placing third in the high jump. Garrett Jansen had the farthest discus throw, and in the sprint and relay events, Pella had a total of eight first place finishers. A full list of results can be found on kniakrls.com under today’s sports. Thursday is a big day for all of our local track and field teams, as Pella heads to Grinnell for their Class 3A state qualifier, Knoxville goes to Winterset, and Pella Christian is at Eddyville-Blakesburg.
