Using the word “successful” could be an understatement of what went on yesterday at the Class 3A state qualifying meet in Grinnell for the Pella High track teams. The boys and girls combined for a total of 21 events that Pella will be represented in at Drake Stadium next week. Starting with the boys, they won the meet for their second straight district championship. Chris Brogden, Jordon and Wade Pingel, the 4 x 800 meter and the medley relay teams all won first place in their events. Garrett Jansen, Wade Pingel, Kenny DuPre, Evan Jones, Keegan Fitzsimmons, and the 4 x 100 and 200 meter relay teams all took second, but still won a spot in the state tournament. The Lady Dutch qualified a total of eight events and finished second overall to Solon, and hopefully, for both teams, more will be qualified when all of the other Class 3A qualifying sites’ results come in. Mackenzie Gustafson, Lydia VanEe, Becky Visser, and Jessica Holterhaus all qualified individual events, and the 4 x 100, 200 and 400 meter relays teams are definite qualifiers. A full list of the top two finishers can be found below. The state track meet is next week May 16 – 18.
