The Pella boys’ soccer team bounced back after their loss to Nevada with a win over conference rival Newton on Thursday, 4 – 2. The Little Dutch scored two goals in the first seven minutes off the cleats of Noah Clayberg and David Wiley. Newton would answer back with two of their own in the first half, before Pella broke the tie right before the half, as Austin Van Genderen found Christian Hamilton with less than six minutes to go to put the team up 3 – 2. Van Genderen would add an insurance tally early in the second half to give the Little Dutch more breathing room to work with. Pella ends the regular season with a record of 11 – 5 – 2, and a conference record of 5 – 1, good enough to earn a share of the league title. Pella will host either Chariton or Oskaloosa in round two of the Class 2A substate tournament this Wednesday at the Pella Soccer Complex at 6:30 p.m.
