A back-and-forth, exciting game between Pleasantville and Pella Christian ended in a tie game on Monday to open up both teams’ 2013 seasons. Three consecutive hits from the Trojans netted the first run of the ballgame; unfortunately for Pleasantville, it was their defense that let them down and allowed the Eagles to take a pair of one-run leads before seeing those vanish thanks to some timely hitting from Alli Friday. The Eagles had just gotten out of the top of the sixth and were getting ready to bat in their half of the inning, when lightning was spotted off in the distance, forcing the umpires to suspend play for at least thirty minutes. When the sky appeared to not be clearing up anytime soon, officials soon made the call to just end the game in a 3 – 3 tie. Using three pitchers for a total of six innings of work, head coach Nate Van Wyk said after the game, that that will be status quo for his team this season. Pella Christian and Pleasantville start the season 0 – 0 – 1, and the Eagles have a game at home against Montezuma scheduled for tonight.
