Both Pella High track and field teams have two big meets coming up this week. The first is their home meet on Monday; a last hurrah for the senior Lady and Little Dutch. Then on Thursday, they’ll be heading to Grinnell for the state qualifying meet. Little Dutch head coach, Brent Van Hauen tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that he and coach Doug Cutler have been working with the distance runners on prepping their game plan for getting their events qualified for state inside the Blue Oval. Van Hauen says that he’s been helping them pace themselves to cut seconds off their time. The Little Dutch head coach also explained that the sprinters have been doing speed work over the last several days, especially early on in the week when it was sunny and warm. The weather is supposed to be nice for Pella’s final home track meet of the 2013 spring season, which gets underway at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
