It was a pair of big conference wins for Pella Christian’s softball team Tuesday night; beating Newton in a twinbilling. Tessa Howerzyl hit a walk-off two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap a four-run come-from-behind rally for the Eagles in game one, 4 – 2. The Eagles’ catcher went 2-for-4 at the plate, Lauren Jungling went 2-for-3, and Taylor Hartson got the win on the mound. A six-run fourth inning was just enough to allow the Eagles to complete the sweep of the Cardinals, 6 – 5. Howerzyl had another 2-for-4 outing in game two, and Abby Pleima also added a pair of singles in the night cap. Hartson recorded win number two on the mound in the contest and Nicole Kelderman came in to earn the save in the seventh. The Eagles improve to 9 – 9 – 1 overall, and 4 – 5 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They won’t travel far for tonight’s game against a very good Twin Cedars’ club. You can hear all of the action live on 92.1 KRLS and streamed live at KNIAKRLS.com with Cory Houser on the call. Pregame starts immediately after the Marion County PM Sports Page, which starts at around 6:30 p.m. First pitch tonight is scheduled for 7:30.
