A fly ball that just escaped the glove of left fielder, Tanner Wood helped Grinnell escape and walk-off with a 2 – 1 win over Pella in baseball action on Friday. The game was scoreless until the sixth, when Tigers’ first baseman, Ryan Davis singled to begin the inning, then stole second, third and eventually home to score the go-ahead run. Pella answered right back with their own leadoff single by Isaac Naaktgeboren, who was pulled for pinch runner, Adam Carey. The speedy Carey found himself on third with two outs, when reliever Brett Gabel was called for a balk, bringing home the tying run. Dutch starter, Jacob Gleason struck out the first two batters in the seventh, but a walk and an error on a sinking fly ball to left allowed the winning run to score for Grinnell. Pella has now lost their seven games this season by a combined nine runs. Coach Jesse Jablonski said that his guys need to put the pedal to the metal early on on their opponents. The Little Dutch are 0 – 7 to begin the season and 0 – 1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They’ll look for their first win of the season against the Eagles of Pella Christian on Monday night.
