The Knoxville Baseball and Softball Squads will travel to Newton tonight. For both squads it will be the Little Hawkeye Conference opener. The baseball Panthers are coming off two home loses to Ames on Monday. After a rain out and a few days to practice, the Panthers are looking to continue their season tonight. Coach Joel Johnson says his pitching staff needs to get out and have some games under their belts. That fire will hopefully come tonight in Newton with a good weather forecast. You can hear the call on AM 1320 KNIA and streamed live on kniakrls.com with Derek Cardwell and Marcus Johnson starting with the pre-game show at 6:45. Meanwhile, the Knoxville Softball Squad will play at Berg Middle School across town in Newton tonight. Like the baseball team, the softball girls have had precious few games. However, Coach Steph Christner says that has not been a bad thing. She adds with only five games played of a total seven possible and 3-4 days in between games, the girls have practiced very well getting better offensively and defensively. You can hear updates during the broadcast of the baseball game tonight on AM 1320 KNIA. First pitch of the softball contest is scheduled for 7:30.
