After losing their first seven games of the season by a total of nine runs, the Pella High baseball team got the job done early and quick for a change against Pella Christian on Monday, sweeping the doubleheader with a pair of five-inning wins. Game one finished 10 – 0. Tanner Wood picked up a win this time, going all five innings and striking out seven. Daniel Langenfeld was 2-for-2 scoring three runs and driving in two. Jason Morgan was also 1-for-1 and tallied 3 RBI’s, while Spencer Fynnardt was 2-for-2 for the Eagles. The nightcap was a sloppy affair; both teams combined to commit 13 errors in just five innings, but Pella still won 19 – 9. Pella Christian committed ten of those mistakes, which helped the Little Dutch build an early 8 – 1 lead. The Eagles countered with a 9 – 8 lead in the fourth, but Pella retook the lead with two in their half of the inning, and then put a nine-spot up for the walk-off win in the fifth. Pella High head baseball coach, Jesse Jablonksi said that his guys took their frustrations out on the baseball in last night’s game. Eagles’ head coach, Nate Johnson said that what could have went wrong for his team, did go wrong on Monday. Pella’s boys improve to 2 – 7 in the year and 2 – 1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, while the Eagles drop to 6 – 5 and 1 – 2, respectively. Pella next heads to PCM today and Pella Christian plays Norwalk on Wednesday.
