PCM was also playing in two separate tournaments on Saturday. The Mustangs’ softball team dropped their contests to Oskaloosa and Keokuk. They fell to the Indians, 6 – 1. Kaitlyn Wilkie went 2-for-3 at the plate. The offense was again stagnant for PCM in their loss to Keokuk, 4 – 1. Payge Edwards walked all three times at the plate, and Abbi Gilson had an outstanding diving catch from behind the plate to highlight the afternoon for the Mustangs’ softball team. The PCM baseball team racked up 23 runs in their two wins in the West Marshall tournament. The Mustangs started with a 12 – 0 shutout win over Grundy Center. Tyler Townsend pitched a no-hitter and struck out five in his outing. Ron Marshall and Townsend each had a pair of RBI’s, and the team as a whole was handed out 12 free passes to first base in the game. PCM played West Marshall for the championship, and hammered them 11 – 3. Clay Cooper was a menace at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI’s. Chase Keuning and Zach Uhlenhopp also had a trio of base hits for the Mustangs, who stole nine bases in the game successfully. PCM softball drops to 9 – 10 on the season while the baseball squad is 8 – 7. Gilbert comes to town today as the two schools resume Heart of Iowa Conference play.
