It’s National Lightning Safety Week and KNIA/KRLS wants to remind you that there is no safe place outside when thunderstorms are in the area. Just remember, “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors.” The best way to protect yourself from lightning is to avoid the threat. If you are outside, Randy Rieneke of the Pella Fire Department suggests finding an enclosed area where you can take cover. He adds that if you see a lightning strike, you should call 911 and avoid all trees, poles or any other objects that may attract another strike.
