Two very good North Polk teams were able to hand PCM’s baseball and softball squads each a loss in Monday night action. North Polk won in softball, 12 – 1. Jayci Vos led offensively with a 2-for-2 night, but that was about it for production, as the Comets were all over the Mustangs. North Polk’s baseball team is ranked number two in the state in Class 2A, and they shutout PCM’s baseball team, 4 – 0. Coach Shaun Hudnut tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that his guys played hard and with some grit, but the Comets have two of the best pitchers they will see all year. Only one Mustang was able to have decent success, and that was Clay Cooper, who had the only two hits for PCM and went 2-for-4 overall at the plate. Freshman Austin Brown pitched a good game, but ultimately was tagged for the loss, giving up four earned runs in six innings of work, striking out six and walking three. The losses drop PCM’s softball record to 8 – 7 and baseball to 6 – 5. PCM will host Pella today on the baseball diamond, while the softball team gets a day off to prepare for Saydel on Wednesday.
