Both the Mustangs’ baseball and softball teams made some noise with their play in two separate tournaments. The PCM softball team won two of three games, starting with a 7 – 1 victory over Sigourney. Abbi Gilson and Payge Edwards were each 2-of-3 at the plate, and Jayci Vos went 3-for-3. The Mustangs’ girls followed that up with an 8 – 2 victory over Centerville. Kelsey Townsend drew three walks and Kayla Jennings was 3-for-4. Gilson would homer in the championship game with Eddyville-Blakesburg, but her team fell in eight innings, 5 – 4. The Mustangs’ boys won their two games in the East Marshall tournament. To start off, PCM faced Hudson and beat them 9 – 3. Tyler Townsend went the distance on the mound, giving up two runs and five hits to pick up his first win of the season. Trey Lindsay was just 1-for-1 at the plate officially, but he walked three times and drove in three runs. Austin Brown was also 3-for-3 in that game, and PCM finished their day with a one-run winner over Cardinal, 9 – 8. There were several errors from both teams, a total of nine, but the Mustangs were able to capitalize in the seventh. Down 8 – 7, they pushed across the tying run, and then Austin Brown scored the game winner by stealing third and then taking home when the challenging throw to the hot corner went to the outfield. PCM’s softball team improves to 8 – 6 while baseball sits at 6 – 4. PCM plays North Polk on Monday to get back to Heart of Iowa Conference play.
