Pella Capitalizes on Knoxville Errors in Softball Win

Several Knoxville mistakes on Wednesday night allowed the Pella High softball team to win 11 – 5 in the first of three games between the two schools. The Lady Dutch scored the first five runs of the game on five hits and a handful of errors. Bri Arkema was lights out on the mound for the first four innings, allowing just two base runners and no hits. The Panthers knocked her out of the game in the fifth, however, when a leadoff walk and a next-pitch triple brought home the game’s first run for Knoxville. Arkema earned the win on the mound while Elyse Sadler pitched the final two-and-two-thirds innings for the save. Lady Dutch head coach, Krista DeMeuelenaere said that Arkema’s hot start helped the team focus on offense. Coach Steph Chrisner said that her girls’ bats were just a tad off and will be looking at correcting a few things before Friday. Designated player, Andrea Fuller for Pella went 4-for-5 with four RBI’s, and Ricki Hall went 2-for-4 to lead the offensive attack for Knoxville. Pella softball improves to 5 – 8 while Knoxville drops to 3 – 7. Each team has today off and will get back to action tomorrow; Knoxville will host Pella Christian and Pella heads to Norwalk to face a hot Warriors team.
