In a highly anticipated match-up the Twin Cedars’ baseball team edged defending Class 1A state champion Martensdale-St. Mary’s on Monday, 5 – 4. Otis Roby earned the win on the mound, throwing seven innings, allowing three earned runs on just two hits and striking out 11 Blue Devils. Martensdale had a 2 – 0 lead after the top of the first, but the Sabers countered with a three-run jack off the bat of Brent Parker. The Blue Devils took the lead back with two more in the third, but Twin Cedars would answer with one in the bottom of the fourth, and the winning run crossing the plate in the fifth. Hunter Embray continued his dominance behind the plate, throwing out three runners, including one in the seventh inning in a one-run game. Embray has only allowed one stolen base this season to help his extremely talented Sabers’ team to a 13 – 1 record. Twin Cedars has a few days off before hosting Melcher-Dallas on Thursday.
